Today, the world is spiraling over the incessant debate on Feminism and how women should and should not be treated. The elite of these women have taken the Feminism movement as priority, charging and fostering the recognition, awareness and empowerment of women across the world. They have become the voice of women across the world howling and expounding the value of women in a subverting society.
A laudable pursuit for women to be accorded the plaudits they truly deserve. But unfortunately, the whole concept has been bastardized, misconstrued and somewhat politicized. In recent times, it’s become a tool which stirs unending furor rather than lasting parity among men and women across the globe. Feminism like Racism and other social ideals have only succeeded in proliferating social hassle and cultural disparity and wrangle.
Ideally, according to a renowned dictionary, the concept of Feminism connotes,
“A belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.”
It means that both men and women should have a right to economic, educational, political and social opportunities. In other words, men and women should be given a level playground or platform to showcase their skill set and thrive under the same circumstances, terms and conditions. Based on that premise, it [Feminism] means all lives matter.
But today, the narrative is quite different as Feminism only preach Women and not Humans. Feminism gave birth to another social ideal called Sexism which only fuels and aggrandizes the discord on the social pedestal. Now women want to be men because the ideal have only succeeded in telling them,
“A woman can do everything a man can and even more…”
Well, I beg to differ with its interpretation and here’s why. Truth is, a woman can’t do everything a man can.
“A woman can only be what a man can.”
With reference to the initial, a woman can’t do everything a man can and vice versa. Now, not to create another worldwide debate but walk with me for a second. Creation itself, tells us a man and woman are different with distinctive features that each serve unique purposes. For instance, a woman can’t impregnate herself and a man can’t get Pregnant. Reason is, they don’t have the capacity to do that even if they wanted to. A man couldn’t breastfeed even if he wanted to.
Creation and science tells us a man’s born with a firmer body or bone structure than a woman by nature. Albeit, with series of training, a woman can achieve a strong body structure as opposed to her tender nature. Point is, while some things are Earned, others are Given. Just a quick question to all women. When did being tender, affectionate, passionate and nurturing become a synonym for weakness?
In Eden, the Creator made man out of dust and figured there was a missing puzzle and so he made a woman out of the man. It symbolizes that there is no man without a woman because she completes the puzzle. They were both equally vital to the Creator’s goal which is Procreation. Now this brings me to the latter,
“A woman can only be what a man can be.”
Now while both of them possess the tools to achieve the Creator’s goal of Procreation, they needed an Opportunity or Platform as it were to bring that goal to fruition, hence, the Creator made Sex. He gave this Opportunity [Sex] and access to both the man and woman not either of the two. It tells you even the Creator stands for Equality. He gave them [Man and Woman] an Opportunity to make Lives. He gave them Life but together, they made the World.
Today, women want to be men and all of a sudden feel offended when a man sees her as a woman and treats her as such. Society have attached the word “Weakness” to women. Question is, who makes the volatile society? Humans or the Creator? Today, rather than probing or questioning the Opportunity we question the Gender. Now a Queen wants to wear a King’s crown. You know why? It’s because she’s become insecure of her position and worth as a Queen. Our women today have forgotten that a Queen is only a King’s title for a woman. She forgets being a Queen is perfect and all she has to do is rule the world with her King.
Clearly, we’ve become oblivious of the fact that we’re all in this together. So I’d say the narrative should be that,
“With every successful man is a woman.”
It signifies “Partnership” because the success of the man is the success of the woman and vice versa. Victory for one is victory for all because with partnership, comes Value and with Value, comes Growth.
Recently, one of my mentors, Chimamanda Adichie gave her resolute opinions on why she thinks a man shouldn’t open the door for a lady if it’s from a position of weakness. And then prior to that, she questioned Hilary Clinton’s preference on marital status before corporate and political status in her Twitter bio. While I may be a colossal admirer of her works, I have my reservations about her recent opinions. The big question is, where do you really draw the line on Feminism?
Has Feminism moved from equal rights and opportunities to equal preferences? Why does a concept which is supposed to preach gender equality end up maligning one gender and eulogizing the other? Why should a social ideal vociferate “Girl Child Education” rather than “Child Education”? Where is our pride and joy of being a Wife and Mother? Why do we have to second guess our choices to suit an ideal? Whatever happened to being a Gentleman to a Lady?
In Africa, precisely in these parts, the issue of Feminism trickles down to Education and Self Awareness. Back in the day, our parents were taught that a boy’s place is in the fields while a girl’s place is in the Kitchen and they try to pass on that debasing ideal to the next generation. Point is, if their parents [Our Forefathers] knew better, they would have done better. It loudens the importance of Education. If the boys and girls are given the right Education, they go on to be better informed men and women building a better and healthier social, economic and political circle.
In the end, women do not have to prove to anyone [Men mostly] that they can be just as strong and powerful. Value makes you Invaluable. With Value comes Recognition, Reverence and Respect. Women do not need to validate their claim to the throne because they already are Royalty. Rather than embrace an ideal you barely have a grasp on, why not embrace the confidence in yourself and choices as a woman and simply soar?
Chimamanda Adichie also stated that we should name the problem. Well, naming the problem is not resolving the problem. The problem is not the name, the name is the problem. The Feminist cloak has become a choke, take it off. How you see yourself reflects how you see the world. Every man is born of a woman and every woman is a product of a man. God created Humans and humans created Feminism and other social stratification ideals that have only succeeded in dividing us all.
As humans, [Not Race or Gender] we must possess the Right Mindset, Education and Skill set and equally exposed to the Right Opportunities as only then can we produce the Right Results and ultimately build the Right Society in Love, Admiration and Respect for one another. This is Humanity. This is Danny world…
