TOP TEN MOVIES THIS AUGUST


Both critically and commercially, July was another win for the big screen. Anticipated franchises such as “Spiderman: Homecoming” and “War For The Planet Of Apes” delivered successfully to both the box office and fans. Also comedies like “Girls Trip” with stars like Jada Pinkett-Smith and Queen Latifah amongst others exceeded expectations winning over critics. This month, we’ll see stars like Ryan Reynolds, Jackie Chan, Robert Pattinson, Idris Elba, Halle Berry, Katherine Heigl and a host of other star actors grace the big screen. As we delve into August which promises to be amazing!

Without further ado, here are your top 10 movies this August;

• THE DARK TOWER

Idris Elba stars as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger whose duty is to defend the dark tower from the machinations of the nefarious man in Black (Matthew McConaughey). The movie is based on Stephen Kings novels of the same name. To be released August 4th.

• KIDNAP

This marks the first time Halle Berry is headlining a film since 2013’s “The Call”. Berry stars as an ordinary mother who finds herself in an unimaginable situation. By all accounts, it looks to be more suspenseful than an action thrill ride. Hopefully fans feel the same. To be released August 4th.

• ANNABELLE: CREATION

Horror movie fans are going to love this movie.Directed by David F. Sandberg. This installment serves as a prequel to the first film,telling the origin story behind the titular possessed doll. Hopefully it serves well in the box office. To be released August 11th.

• THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD:

Both Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are known for their witty sense of humour. Seeing the two share the screen will be amazing. Directed by Patrick Hughes (Expendables 3). Reynolds is the renowned bodyguard and Jackson is his client. Fans are itching for this one no doubt. To be released August 18th.

• LOGAN LUCKY

The film follows three siblings (Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and Riley Keough) as they attempt to launch a heist during a high-profile NASCAR race. Along the way they encounter other players in the likes of Daniel Craig, Katie Holmes, Seth Mcfarlane, Hilary Swank and many more. To be released August 18.

• DETROIT

The film is directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It is already a top award contender even before its wide release this month. This film tells the real life tale of the Algiers Motel incident during the 1967 12th street riot in the titular city. It Features performances by John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jason Mitchell, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie. To be released August 4.

• THE GLASS CASTLE

Based on the 2005 memoir by Jeanette Walls. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton tells the story of an unconventional family and how this upbringing informed the adult life of walls herself (played by Oscar Winner Brie Larson). Her world turns upside down when they move to New York to be close to her. Woody Harrelson and Naomi watts star as her parents in the movie. To be released August 11.

• GOOD TIME

Robert Pattinson also known as Edward Cullen in the twilight series stars as a bank robber looking to free his brother from Jail. Directed by Ben and Josh Sadfie. To be released on august 11th.

• NUT JOB 2: NUTTY BY NATURE

An amazing family comedy animation from Gulfstream pictures. Director Cal Brunker is behind the scenes for this rib-cracking adventure. Bad mayor Bobby Moynihan initiates a demolition of the park where Surly and his friends live in Oakton. Surly [Will Arnett] the squirrel, will lead his animal friends in an attempt to fight for their home. Jackie Chan, Katherine Heigl and Maya Rudolph also stars. Movie is set to be released August 11th.

• PILGRIMAGE

Director Brendan Muldowney is behind the scenes for this top draw Irish historical adventure. The film tells a tale of a religious journey taken by Irish monks in the 13th century. In an attempt to escort their monastery’s sacred halidom, their mission is troubled by the tribal wars on going on the path they tread to Rome. Movie stars Tom Holland, Richard Armitage, Jon Bernthal, Stanley Weber and many more. Release date is August 11th.
