Hollywood always leave us spellbound month in month out as they keep producing blockbusters to the delight of movie fans all over the world. April saw “Fate Of The Furious” breaking box office record after the classic action broke the $1 billion mark in its first 18 days after release. This month, one movie already smashing box office records is Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” vol 2 with a U.S weekend gross of $145.05 million. A couple of movies also creating a lot of buzz in the media like “Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”, “War Machine” & “King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword”.
Rest assured, May is going to leave you begging for more. We’re gonna be seeing the biggest of hollywood stars on the screen this month. Chris Pratt [Passengers], Oscar winning Johnny Depp, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson [Fate Of The Furious, Moana, Scorpion King], Kurt Russel, Zach Efron, Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Brenton Thwaites, Idris Elba, Brad Pitt, Dave Bautista and Anthony Haynes. May has certainly got everyone talking. So, without further ado, top ten [10] movies you gotta look out for this May.
• ALIEN: Covenant
Director, Ridley Scott comes with a prequel to his 1979 classic “Alien” and a sequel to “Alien” prequel 2013 Prometheus. Screenwriters, Michael Green and Jack Paglen helped script in what could be the last reboot of the the “Alien” franchise. The film is set for a distant planet on the other side of the galaxy, the colony’s ship crew “Covenant” reveals what they view to be an unsurveyed haven.
But turns out it’s a mysterious and dangerous world whose only resider is the “Synthetic” David [i.e Michael Fassbender] the sole survivor of the Prometheus expedition. The movie also stars Noomi Repace, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudrup and a host of other top notch actors. The twentieth century fox network are pulling their weight behind this big one. Indeed, we expect nothing but the best from this one. Release date is set for May 19th, 2017.
• KING ARTHUR: Legend Of The Sword
A classic from director, Guy Ritchie and his crew as fans gear up for this amazing tale of Arthur’s progression from the streets to the throne. Warner Bros have their eyes set on this big one which fans believe will smash box office records. Arthur was a kid when his father died. His uncle, then assumes the throne stealing the crown which is Arthur’s birthright. Arthur, then grows up in the alleys of the city uncertain about his identity. But when he takes the coveted sword from the stone, his life takes an instant turn. The movie stars Idris Elba. Jude Law, Charlie Hunnam and other class casts. The release date is set for May 12th, 2017.
• BAYWATCH
Paramount pictures and director Seth Gordon comes with this classic comedy “Baywatch”. Mitch Buchannon [Dwayne Johnson] is a committed lifeguard loved by everyone at Bay. He’s the head of lifeguards in Baywatch, Miami. Newbie, Matt Brody [Zach Efron] clashes with Mitch and when disturbing activities arise at a local beach club causing Mitch to believe that his precious Bay is being threatened and he needs to save it with his team. The film also stars Pamela Anderson and Alexandria Daddario. Screen writers, Brian Gatewood, Alessandro Tanaka and Peter Tolan have helped script this amazing comedy. Release date is set to be May 25th, 2017.
• GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: Vol 2
Marvel has stormed the box office again with the second instalment of “Guardians Of The Galaxy” after amassing a weekend gross of $145.05 million in the U.S box office one week after its release on May the 5th, 2017. Director, James Gunn comes with the second volume of the “Guardians Of The Galaxy” franchise. The story continues with the adventures and search to uncover the vagueness behind Peter Quill’s [Chris Pratt] true parentage as the team walks through his history. The film also stars A-list actors like Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana and Kurt Russel. Visit the cinemas near you to see this amazing blockbuster.
• EVERYTHING EVERYTHING
Stella Meghie is behind the scenes for this awesome and romantic teenage drama assisted by screenwriter J.Mills Goodloe. Maddy’s spent 17 years of her life locked up in her home away from society seeing only her mom and nurse who always came for check ups. Maddy has Severe Combined Immunodeficiency [SCID] an uncommon disease which makes her allergic to everything. But when Olly [a boy who moved in next door] arrives, everything changes for Maddy. The movie stars Amandla Stenberg, Nick Robinson, Anika Rose and Taylor Hickson. The release date is set for May 19th, 2017.
• PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Fans are itching for this big one as Jack Sparrow [Johnny Depp] returns to the big screen for another classic. Directors, Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg combine behind the scenes to produce this classic adventure. Walt Disney have their eyes gazed on this one. It’s an all-new adventure for Jack Sparrow and the other pirates as an old rival Captain Salazar [Bardem] escapes from the Devil’s Triangle.
Salazar is set to destroy every pirate at sea especially Captain Sparrow. Sparrow’s only shot at surviving lies in finding the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact [man-made object] that confers upon its possessor complete power and control over the sea. The movie also stars Brenton Thwaites, Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Martin Klebba and Adam Brown. Release date is set for May 26th, 2017.
• WEDDING PLAN
Rama Burshtein is behind the scenes for this classic drama. Michal [Noa Kooler] is a conventional Jewish woman who finally has her eyes set on her wedding. 32 year old Michal has always anticipated her marriage but her hopes is short-lived when her fiance decides to call-off the wedding. Michal is devastated but hesitant on returning to her single life, she envisages the right one will come along and sweep her off her feet in 30 days. She books the venue and buys her wedding gown.
Her mom and sister are critical of her psychotic and risky plan only to the deaf ears of Michal. Michal seeks for the help of two different matchmakers who set her up with disastrous blind dates disregarding the pleas from friends and family who think she’s gone crazy. As the big day edged even closer, no suitor shows up and Michal puts everything on the line for her happiness. The release date for this one is set for May 12th, 2017.
• DEADAWAKE
One for the horror fans to cheer as Phillip Guzman and screen writer, Jeffrey Reddick combine behind the scenes for this classic horror. Social worker, Kate Bowman [Jocelin Donahue] finds herself stuck in a world of supernatural terror while delving into series of mysterious death cases. Bowman discovers that all victims experienced a chilling condition called Sleep Paralysis, a terror assault on the human senses that renders its victims motionless as they dream in their sleep. A scary creature begins to terrorize Bowman’s family and friends as she must strive to keep awake to put an end to this nightmare she’s created. The release date for is set for May 12th, 2017.
• THE WALL
Doug Liman and Dwain Worrell are behind the scenes for this action packed psychological thriller “The Wall” starring Aaron Johnson and John Cena. Two soldiers skilled in the art of marksmanship are cornered by an Iraqi sniper with a brittling wall between them. The fight becomes a battle for quick thinking and sheer desire as well as accurate shooting skills. The release date for this action is set for May 12th, 2017.
• WAR MACHINE
A ludicrous war tale written and directed by David Michôd “Animal Kingdom”. The plot is centered around General Glen [Brad Pitt] a charismatic military general who jumps into Afghanistan to command and lead the NATO forces but his command is short-lived by a journalist’s savage exposé. It’s an amazing combo of action, drama and comedy. This one’s surely got everyone talking.
The movie also stars Michôd’s probably most featured cast in person of Anthony Hayes. This would be the third time the star actor will be working with Michôd on set. It also stars Daniel Betts, Alan Ruck, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Ben Kingsley, Emory Cohen and Meg Tilly. The movie is budgeted $60 million. The release date for this big one is set for May 26th, 2017.
