This week, the gang returns with the much anticipated Music Review Episode as we dissect new albums from Ayra Starr (The Year I Turned 21), and Tems (Born In The Wild). Of course, we had to kick it for a bit before delving into the review. Naomie binged-watched the YouTube series “Just Us Girls” after Danny’s recommendation last week, and together we fan out over the series and discuss how chaotic the characters and their personalities are, and how much we can’t wait for the new season. Then Danny poses the question of the week on Selflessness vs People Pleasing.
On the main segment (min 44:05) of this week’s show, we break down each song from the albums of Ayra Starr and Tems. We go through each song giving our views on the song from a structure, placement, sonically, and thematic perspective. We highlight the interludes on each album and make parallels with our lives drawing experiences on our mothers loving and pouring into us during doubt, losing a father and the pain, and second-guessing our abilities constantly. Then we conclude by ranking each album comparatively through three lenses Sound, Theme, and Replay Value. You’re in for one hell of an episode! We had so much fun doing this one. Enjoy the show!
